AI will be utilized in several innovative ways for the 2024 Paris Olympics:
AI-powered video surveillance will be deployed to detect "suspicious" or "abnormal" behavior in crowds. Algorithms will analyze footage from CCTV cameras and drones to identify potential threats and alert authorities.
Automatic highlights generation and AI-assisted editing tools are being tested to create efficiencies in broadcasting workflows.
AI is also enhancing the Olympics.com experience by helping fans find relevant content more easily.
AI social listening tools are being used to inspire content creation and distribution across digital platforms.
Cloud-based remote production technologies enabled by AI, like OBS LiveCloud from Alibaba, will be the main method for distributing live broadcast signals, reducing the on-site footprint.
Experimental AI technologies like the Olympic metaverse world created with the Gangwon Organizing Committee are being tested to provide new virtual experiences for fans.
The use of AI surveillance raises questions around privacy, bias, and compliance with proposed EU AI Act regulations aimed at protecting human rights.

Meta introduces latest model of Llama
Meta has announced updates to its AI models, claiming they are now among the most capable in the industry.
Meta is deploying its chatbot across its most popular apps - Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Users may encounter the chatbot commenting on posts, chiming in on group messages, or offering suggestions in social feeds.
Users can chat directly with the chatbot, which can generate images and write messages, similar to Microsoft and Google's AI assistants integrated into productivity software.
This move has been described as both strategic and desperate - it's unclear if Meta is playing catch-up or establishing itself as a leader in AI with a capable model, relevant hardware, and massive user base.
Microsoft making it easier to Deepfake
The VASA-1 is a research project from Microsoft that can take a single image and an audio clip, and transform them into a high-quality video of a talking head.
The VASA-1 system is able to generate lifelike facial animations and lip movements that are synchronized with the provided audio in real-time.
While the VASA-1 is currently a research project, the search results indicate Microsoft is making progress in developing this AI-powered technology to turn static images into convincing talking videos.
Boston Dynamics creates intimidating Robot
Atlas is described as the "world's most dynamic humanoid robot" designed for real-world applications.
Atlas has an advanced control system and state-of-the-art hardware that give it the power and balance to perform advanced athletics and agility.
The goal is to develop the next generation of robots with the mobility, perception, and intelligence needed to be commonplace in people's lives.
Atlas has progressed from just walking, to doing parkour and other dynamic movements, and now to using its hands to interact with and manipulate the environment around it.
The House Passed a bill to ban Tik Tok if they donβt sell
The U.S. House of Representatives has once again passed legislation that could lead to a nationwide TikTok ban, renewing a major threat to the company's U.S. operations. The new bill would give TikTok roughly 9 months to sell its U.S. business, or face being prohibited from U.S. app stores and internet hosting services.
While the Senate still needs to approve the bill, policy analysts view the chances of Senate passage as high, around 80%, as the legislation has been bundled with a must-pass foreign aid package. If the bill becomes law and TikTok fails to find a buyer, U.S. users could be cut off from the app.
