NEWS: Your Weekly Tech Update
Project ‘Groot‘ announced by Nvidia
NVIDIA is making a bold move into the realm of humanoid robotics with the introduction of its new AI platform, GR00T, enlisting the collaboration of the industry's leading names. This initiative not only underscores NVIDIA's pivotal role in AI and robotics innovation but also aims to set a new standard for the development and integration of humanoid robots in various sectors.
Key Takeaways:Collaboration with Leading Robotics Companies: NVIDIA's GR00T platform is a collaborative effort with major humanoid robot makers like Boston Dynamics, Agility Robotics, and others, aiming to create a general-purpose foundation model for humanoid robots.
Innovative Hardware and AI Integration: The introduction of Jetson THOR, a new computer designed for humanoid robotics, alongside GR00T, highlights NVIDIA's commitment to providing advanced simulation tools, machine learning environments, and hardware specifically tailored for the humanoid form factor.
Future of Humanoid Robotics: NVIDIA's initiative is a significant step towards democratizing access to advanced robotics development, potentially accelerating the creation and integration of humanoid robots in everyday life and addressing some of humanity's most pressing challenges.
Stability AI has created a new image to 3D tool
Stability AI introduces Stable Video 3D (SV3D), a groundbreaking generative model that significantly advances 3D technology by enabling high-quality, consistent view synthesis and 3D generation from single images. This innovative model comes in two variants, SV3DU and SV3DP, catering to a wide range of applications from creating orbital videos to generating detailed 3D meshes, making it a versatile tool for both commercial and non-commercial use.
Key Takeaways:
Innovative 3D Generation: SV3D leverages stable video diffusion technology to produce orbital videos and 3D videos along specified camera paths from single images, offering unprecedented quality and view consistency in 3D model generation.
Versatile Applications: The model supports a wide range of applications, from novel view synthesis to 3D mesh generation, enhancing pose controllability and ensuring consistent object appearance across multiple views.
Accessibility and Collaboration: Available for commercial use with a Stability AI membership and for non-commercial purposes through model weights on Hugging Face, SV3D invites widespread collaboration and innovation in the field of 3D technology.
Tennessee becomes first state to protect artists from AI
Tennessee has become the first state in the U.S. to enact legislation aimed at protecting musicians and artists from unauthorized artificial intelligence (AI) impersonations. The "Ensuring Likeness, Voice, and Image Security Act," or ELVIS Act, updates the state's previous right of publicity law to include AI-specific protections. This landmark move, effective from July 1, prohibits the use of AI to mimic an artist's voice without permission, setting a precedent for the protection of artists' rights in the age of AI.
Key Takeaways:
Historic Legislation: Tennessee's ELVIS Act represents a pioneering step in legal protections for artists against AI impersonation, reflecting the state's recognition of the challenges and opportunities presented by emerging AI technologies in the music industry.
Protection of Artistic Integrity: By prohibiting the unauthorized use of AI to replicate an artist's voice, the legislation aims to safeguard the integrity and rights of artists, ensuring that their contributions are respected and protected.
Impact on the Music Industry: The law addresses growing concerns among musicians, songwriters, and producers about the lack of protections over copyrights and intellectual property in the rapidly evolving landscape of AI technology.
Youtube adds a new requirement for AI Videos
YouTube is introducing a new policy requiring creators to label videos that contain AI-generated content, aiming to enhance transparency and prevent confusion among viewers. This move is part of a broader initiative to address the challenges posed by the rapid proliferation of generative AI tools, which can create realistic text, images, video, and audio that are often indistinguishable from authentic content. Starting Monday, creators will encounter a checklist during the upload process to disclose if their content includes realistic-looking synthetic scenes, alterations of real events, or depictions of actions by real people that did not occur. YouTube's goal is to ensure users can easily identify AI-generated or manipulated content, especially in sensitive areas like politics, to maintain the platform's integrity and trustworthiness.
Midjourney updates their standard terms and agreements
Midjourney, an AI startup known for its image and upcoming video generators, has recently updated its terms of service in a way that suggests confidence in overcoming legal challenges related to copyright disputes. This change, moving from a more casual to a formal legal t
one, reflects Midjourney's belief that AI vendors will ultimately prevail in courtroom battles over the use of creators' works in their training data. The company's approach, which includes using copyrighted works for model training under the banner of fair use, has been bold, even listing thousands of artists whose works were utilized without direct permission. This strategy, while potentially lucrative, carries significant legal risks, especially if the courts decide that fair use does not protect such practices.
