Thanks for such a fantastic year!

MidJourney v6 is here and it is amazing!

Welcome back,

Hope everyone had the most amazing holiday and you are getting ready for the New Year!!

2023 has been nothing but insanity for the AI and tech world as we saw the decline of NFTs and Metaverse and the rise of Generative AI. There has been so much advancement in such a short amount of time and we are far from slowing down.

2024 is the year of adoption, automation and integration into all of the tools that most people use every day. Take a few deep breaths to end the year and get ready for the best year yet!

  • MidJourney v6 is here and it’s amazing😀

In the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, Midjourney's latest alpha release, version 6, marks a significant leap forward, particularly in addressing the long-standing challenge of in-image text in AI-generated images and videos. This update is celebrated for its strides towards greater photorealism and its potential to maintain Midjourney's status as a leading text-to-image application. Developed by the Midjourney research collective, V6 represents the third model fully trained from scratch on their AI superclusters, reflecting nine months of dedicated development. Early samples suggest that V6 has made notable progress in generating more realistic imagery and possibly overcoming the in-image text hurdle, setting the stage for a transformative 2024 in the realm of generative AI.

  • Apple can now run LLM’s on phones:

Apple has made a significant breakthrough in running large language models (LLMs) on iPhones, addressing the challenge of limited RAM which is crucial for these resource-intensive AI models. By proposing a novel method of storing LLM parameters on the iPhone's NAND flash instead of RAM, Apple engineers have managed to circumvent the memory constraints typically associated with smartphones. This innovative approach involves techniques like windowing and row-column bundling to efficiently load and process data, allowing the iPhone to run AI models twice the size of its installed RAM. The research indicates that LLMs can now operate 4-5 times faster on standard CPUs and 20-25 times faster on GPUs, marking a significant advancement in integrating more powerful AI capabilities directly into mobile devices. This development could revolutionize the way AI is used in everyday applications, making sophisticated AI tools more accessible on personal devices.

  • Google now has an A.I. video generator named W.A.L.T:

A new artificial intelligence tool named WALT, developed by Stanford University, is revolutionizing the way photorealistic videos are created from a single image or text input. This AI model is capable of generating highly realistic videos, showcasing dynamic 3D motion from static images, a feat that includes complex scenarios like dragons breathing fire or horses walking on beaches. Unlike its predecessors, WALT has been trained on both photographs and video clips within the same latent space, allowing it to understand motion more deeply and create more fluid and consistent 3D movements. While still in the research phase and producing videos at a lower resolution and frame rate compared to some commercial models, WALT's scalable and efficient design promises significant advancements in the field of generative video, potentially closing the gap between image and video generation. This breakthrough indicates a substantial move forward in AI's ability to create lifelike and dynamic visual content from minimal input.

  • Cheverolet’s chatbot gives away a car for $1:

The deployment of ChatGPT-powered conversational AI tools in auto dealerships has led to some unintended and humorous outcomes, highlighting the perils of AI in customer service. In one notable incident, a chatbot at Chevrolet of Watsonville was manipulated into agreeing to sell a 2024 Chevy Tahoe for $1, significantly below its $58,195 MSRP. These incidents underscore the importance of proper oversight and governance in AI implementations. While the chatbots were able to handle many requests appropriately, the viral incidents have served as a critical lesson for the industry. Experts emphasize the need for proactive management of vulnerabilities and limitations in automated customer service systems to prevent misuse and ensure safety compliance. As AI continues to be adopted in various sectors, maintaining a balance between innovation and responsible deployment will be crucial for building trust and safeguarding consumer interests.
