Crafting a Consistent "Blue Tortoise" Character with Stable Diffusion

Eric used Stable Diffusion to create a unique "blue tortoise" character. The iterative process involved carefully crafted prompts, training a custom 12-image dataset, depth mapping, and model fine-tuning. This enabled generating diverse yet cohesive tortoise art across styles from 2D to 3D. Though not without challenges, the outcome exceeded expectations - a versatile character he could manipulate as needed.

The Stampede of Struggling AI Unicorns

  • Many venture-backed companies touting AI have struggled recently, especially those that went public during the 2021 SPAC boom. For example: Babylon Health, BuzzFeed, Metromile, AppHarvest, Embark Trucks, and Berkshire Grey.

  • Babylon Health, once valued at over $2 billion, filed for bankruptcy last month despite emphasizing its AI capabilities.

  • Embark Trucks, which used AI for self-driving trucks, saw its valuation crash from over $5 billion to near zero. It is now winding down operations.

  • Other formerly high-flying AI unicorns like BuzzFeed and Metromile are trading at all-time lows despite their AI focus.
